The Downshire is a picturesque mature parkland course, dotted with some good looking holes, with water coming into play on a few of them. It is quite a busy course, you can tell this by the condition of the tees, fairways and greens, which had just been spiked when I played, looking a little bare in some places.
In my opinion they need to let the rough grow a little to make the course a little tougher, you can be quite wayward on most of the holes and only end up with a lie just slightly worse than if you were on the fairway.
The hole I enjoyed the most was the par 3 third, a tree overhanging the tee area does not really affect the flight of the ball but it is in the back of your mind, while you prepare to find the right shot to clear the huge tree that stands right in front of the green. With a bunker on the left of the hole and water on the right you will need an accurate shot to find the putting surface.
