Batchworth Park starts with trouble down the right of the 1st but with the 2nd fairway running alongside you do have a bail out area. Next comes a straight forward short par 4 with a good chance for a birdie, then it's on to the rolling fairway of the 3rd, a good accurate drive is needed here if you are going to reach the green with your next shot.
A great birdie opportunity comes next at the short 4th but with the large greens you could be left with a rather lengthy birdie putt. The 5th needs a drive down the left away from the tree to leave yourself a nice approach into the green and the par 3 that follows can be tricky if the pin is behind the bunker. If you are going to take on the next hole it will require a very accurate drive to miss the bunkers at the corner of the dogleg, it is probably best played as a par 5. The 8th needs either a brave drive down the right or a great approach shot from the left.
The 9th hole looks reachable in two on the card but your second shot is all uphill so expect to be chipping or pitching on to the green for your third. A sensible drive is needed to start the back nine, maybe even using an iron off the tee to avoid the bunkers and the line on the 11th is definitely up the left hand side. Not much trouble on the 12th but two good shots needed on the 13th if you want a view of the green for your third and the next par 5 is dead straight with the only trouble near the green.
The 15th has water on the right and a bunker in front so needs a good shot to find the green while the 16th has a 'The nearer I can get to the water with my tee shot, the easier my approach will be' look. The penultimate hole has bunkers on both sides of the fairway to avoid from the tee and a large one in the front of the green as well, while the last hole needs a drive towards the lake to avoid being obstructed by the dead tree on the left.
Overall a nice course with rolling fairways, large greens, a good variety of tee positions and great presentation. The clubhouse is great too, nice changing facilities and showers with friendly members and staff.
