I was offered a round at Sutton Green by an old work colleague, well I couldn't resist, it was raining on the way to the club but the clouds cleared a little when I got there and we had patchy sunshine for most of our round. The course is carved out of the wooded landscape that sits between Guildford and Woking providing some spectacular views of the Surrey countryside.
The approach road to the clubhouse runs along the left of the first hole so the tendency is to aim a little right, I didn’t get any height on my tee shot but at least it went straight. My playing partner was trying out a new driver and managed a low hook across the road, into the bushes bounding the course.
A unique account of an Amateur Golfer's journey around the country, giving a personal narrative of his golfing experiences.

Longest Golf Day
The toughest challenge in golf is back and I am taking part. Playing 72 holes, hitting 300+ shots and walking 20 miles - all in one day?
In 2010, over 300 teams took part in the challenge raising more than £325,000 to help people living with cancer in the UK.

A quick round at Boxmoor Golf Club
On the morning of our planned visit to the 'Outlaws' in Nottingham I decided to get a quick nine holes in at Boxmoor Golf Club with Ken. We had last played there in 2007 but I remember it being a very friendly club whose course provided a great test to the golfer with many holes requiring pin point accuracy.

Annual trip to Chiltern Forest
I try to visit Chiltern Forest at least once a year, it is one of my favourite courses, not long by any standards but you have to think about your shots around here, it is certainly not the case of smash every drive off the tee for maximum distance.
Accompanying me this year were Ken, my father and Tony, my cousin. We arrived at the course to find the last few groups of the annual Captain's Drive completing their rounds, we were told when we phoned they had gone out in a shotgun start but it turns out this was not the case.

Hanbury Manor - Hertfordshire
It is a bit of a walk to hole number 1 but once there you are presented with a pretty unique layout, if viewed from above I think it would look a bit like a question mark with the green situated in the middle part of the arc at the top. This leaves you with two choices, try to play for the left side fairway, the start of the question mark as you would write it or take the shorter, safer option and play for the tail, I suppose the tee are would be the dot.

Heythrop Park - Oxfordshire
Playing golf just after Christmas could be considered a little risky but must admit we lucked out, the course was in a great condition and we even managed a few scenic walks around the Resort’s grounds.
From the moment you turn into the impressive landscaped drive you know you are going to be in for a treat, we actually stayed overnight in the Crowne Plaza 4* hotel and played the golf course the next day. I must say that sitting in the Brassey Restaurant looking out over lovely manicured gardens with the course in the background was one of the best breakfast experiences I have had.
