Staverton Park is a very impressive golf resort located in the middle of England within 140 acres of beautiful Northamptonshire
countryside. This parkland layout provides a good test to golfers of all abilities with hazards including lakes and American-style bunkers along super greens that we were told drain so well they are playable all year round.
The first hole has a large tree about 100 yards from the tee making you choose what side of the fairway to play for or you could try to blast over the top of it. The second is a decent length par 5 with a triangular shaped green protected by three bunkers and a water feature sits to the right of the third green.
After the par 3 fourth comes two short par 4's with good birdie chances followed by a par 5 with just two bunkers located near the green. A very large bunker will catch anything falling short left of the par 3 eighth and a row of very well placed bunkers on the ninth will stop you trying to cut the corner.
The back nine starts off with a straight forward par 4 followed by a par 5 that has a ditch just before the approach to the green. The short twelfth has a carry over water to a slightly raised green and there are a good row of bunkers at landing points on the next three holes. The par 3 sixteenth is again well protected by bunkers which is also the case on the penultimate hole. Water comes into play on the last making good fairway position a must to score well.
Some of the holes around here seem a little dull but overall the well positioned bunkers do provide the golfer with a good challenge. The hotel staff and facilities were great and so was the food and drink we had after our round, we would have no hesitation in recommending this a a great venue for a golf break.
